Sydney Airport – The National Gateway
Sydney Airport is one of the most
important pieces of infrastructure in Australia. It is conveniently
located just eight kilometres from the centre of Sydney – Australia’s
largest city.
Efficient airports are an essential part of the transport networks that
all successful modern economies rely on. Sydney Airport is Australia’s
international gateway and connects Sydney to other global cities and
provides access to all the benefits of the global aviation network.
Sydney Airport’s close proximity to the CBD provides Sydney with a clear
advantage. It underpins the city’s tourism industry and creates jobs and
economic growth.
International air services are also an essential factor for the high
value service industries of education, finance, legal services and
commerce generally as they provide access to overseas customers, markets
and opportunities. The depth and range of Sydney Airport’s international
air services therefore gives Sydney a distinct competitive advantage.
A $500 million expansion and upgrade of the International Terminal is
underway. The upgrade will mean a better travel experience. There will
be centralised processing through immigration and new shops, restaurants
and waiting areas. This follows feedback from passengers that they want
more variety, product range and dining options as well as comfortable
places to wait for their flight.
